Can you lose weight and save money - Top tips to help you get in shape

Can losing weight save you money?

Will losing weight help save money?

We are pressured to make more money and constantly seeing people losing fat in transformations.

We live in a world with unrealistic ideals. Instagram, Facebook and fitness marketing are making sure of that.

This can set the bar way too high and leave people feeling unmotivated and end up taking less action.

In my opinion, that’s a mindset issue.

Fat loss is simple but obesity isn’t.

Read that part again.

Losing fat is simple but when you put it into practice, it’s not always that easy.

The side effects of being overweight, not just losing money.

Being overweight isn’t the best for your health, it’s been shown to have the following issues.

  • Increased risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Increased risk of depression
  • Low energy
  • Increased risk of diabetes
  • Low motivation
  • An ugly wardrobe
  • Decreased metabolism
  • Increased risk of some cancers
  • Increased risk of stroke

The list goes on.

With all this, it’s easy to see why being overweight isn’t in your best interest.

If you’re walking around as a big risk of dying or getting seriously ill, it comes as no surprise that you might not be the best at your job.

No energy and motivation can lead to worse decisions, less action taken on crucial conversations and tasks and essentially, less money.

Money makes the world go round

The truth about the world that we live in is that it is driven by money and power.

Money isn’t everything, however, if you tell that to someone who doesn’t have any, more often than not, they’ll disagree with you.

While you should seek happiness from a variety of things that aren’t superficial, like friendships, knowledge, personal development and exercise.

Money and fat loss are related.

The truth is that money can help those things come to reality.

So if you’re not making it because you’re overweight and out of shape, you are missing out on more than just commission or a pay cheque.

How to make a change

Being fit and healthy has a host of benefits from

  • Increased energy
  • Increased feelings of wellbeing and motivation
  • Increase drive
  • Healthy metabolism
  • You finally look good in a suit
  • Decreased depression risk (1)
  • Decreased risk of lots of health complications

Again, the list goes on.

While you don’t have to be a fitness freak, you do have to make some changes.

These changes are completely individual and are up to you to find out how to make them work best for your lifestyle, this isn’t a how to guide on exactly what to do.

Gradual changes always work best.

If you want to make sustainable change then you should only change 1-2 things at a time.

It can take up to 66 days to form a new habit based on research so you can see why 6 week plans might not keep any weight you lose off for good.

If you are completely out of shape then it’s going to take some time to sort it out. That’s just being honest, you have to be realistic.

You can start by trying some or all of the following.

  • Cutting out added liquid Calories including milk in coffee, fizzy drinks and fruit juices.
  • Adding in diet substitutes if you’re really struggling.
  • Minimising, if not cutting out booze altogether.
  • Adding protein into your breakfast from things like eggs, meat, yoghurt or protein powder.
  • Joining a gym.
  • Walking more.
  • Making a bet with a friend.
  • Hiring a professional coach to keep you accountable (I am available for 1-2-1 PT or online coaching, contact me here)
  • Adding more vegetables to meals, eating salad or making a vegetable smoothie.
  • Doing bodyweight squats and/or press ups at home in between ad breaks on TV.

The list is endless. This is just a few ideas to get you going.

While these points may seem to have nothing to do with making money, the outcome will contribute to doing so.

You’ll be a man of purpose, you will have better habits and more discipline.
